Orange-red ball of fire splitting and burning near Bakersfield (Incident 107)

A large orange-red ball of fire, larger than a small airplane, was observed static for approximately thirty seconds before splitting and continuing to burn, with a parachute with black object subsequently observed drifting east.

“On 13th March 1948, informant, Mr. H. B. Nix, stated that he observed an object at 0830, 8 March 1948, due north of Baker sfield, approximately five miles distance. 'Ihe object was a large, orange-red ball of fire , s omewhat larger than a smll airplane, app eared to remain static for a ppr oxi mately thirty seconds , then split and continued to bm-n ; each visible as a burning half.”
